Faculty & Research
The Center for Genetic Medicine's membership includes more than 140 faculty researchers and clinicians from Northwestern University, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Children's Memorial Hospital. Research interests range from fundamental genetic mechanisms to the genetic components of complex human disease.
CGM Research Initiatives:
The NUgene Project- One of the first large-scale genetic banking projects in the country, NUgene seeks to increase the understanding of genetic mechanisms underlying common diseases, assist in the development of DNA-based technology for diagnosis and treatment of disease, and aid physicians and other health-care providers in the application of genetics to the practice of medicine.
dictyBase- Sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, dictyBase is an annotated genetic database for the model organism Dictyostelium discoideum.
Disease Ontology- Designed to facilitate the mapping of diseases and associated conditions to particular medical codes, Disease Ontology is a controlled medical vocabulary developed at the Bioinformatics Core Facility in collaboration with the NUgene Project.
Gene Ontology- The Gene Ontology (GO) project is a collaborative effort to address the need for consistent descriptions of gene products in different databases.
